NEW FOR SCHOOLS IN 2015

2015 is an exciting year for Arts education in schools. The government’s New Programme for Music Education in Schools will challenge teachers, who will also address the changed demands of the New Curriculum for Schools, with its more formal emphasis on provision of opportunities for all pupils to experience making music.

Our 2015 Syllabus addresses schools’ needs in new ways:

School Choirs competitions:  targeting  School Year and Key Stage references, designed to link to the Southend Music Plan for Schools and local teaching initiatives
Instrumental Ensemble classes: linking to Southend Academy of Music initiatives, and the guidelines set out in the New Programme for Music Education in Schools
BBC Ten Pieces TryOuts: non-competitive classes designed to create opportunities for classes  to try out the creative materials they have developed in response to the BBC’s initiatives
Classes for individuals: Age Group criteria now show School Year and Key Stage references: to assist teachers in finding classes that fit their pupils’ ages and education stage

We are very excited about our School Choirs competitions, which we hope will become a “special target” for school and class choirs.  Participation has been increasing for the past few years, and many schools have enjoyed performing together in public.

The BBC has put a lot of effort into generating its Ten Pieces initiative, and Leigh Musical Festival is delighted to be able to offer TryOut opportunities, so that class groups can show the results of their creative work to the community – and possibly get some professional suggestions to improve their chances of a BBC appearance!

We will continue to offer our usual vast array of classes for groups and individuals, both in Singing and playing  Instruments

We look forward to welcoming you!
