The Show Choir
The Show Choir was founded in 2012 as a community based choir with a strong focus on Musical Theatre. As well as traditional musicals we will also cover the more modern ‘juke box’ musicals so you could find yourself singing anything from Cole Porter to Abba or Take That.
Based in Essex the choir is open to anyone aged 16 and above. No audition is required to join the choir and you do not have to read music. All that is required is a passion for music and the ability to have a good time. We want you to have fun as well as make a beautiful sound.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What songs will we be singing?
Our main focus is Musical Theatre and Film Music. The genre is huge with many different styles of music. Many popular artists have now had musicals written around their songs, which opens up the repertoire even further. -
How often and what times do you rehearse?
We meet weekly between 8pm and 10pm. We will be there from 7:45 in order to start promptly at 8pm. We run throughout the year with a two week break at Christmas. -
How much does it cost?
Fees are £60 for a 12 week term. This is the preferred way of paying as we have costs (hall hire etc) which we have to pay in advance. We do understand though that not everyone is able to do this, so you can pay weekly by cash which costs £6. -
How do I pay?
The best way to pay is by cheque or directly into our bank account. We are hoping to introduce a facility to pay by credit/debit card – please note there will be a 2.5% charge for this facility. -
Can I try before I commit to it?
Absolutely! Each member can come along free of charge for a taster session to get a feel for what happens at the rehearsal. -
Do I need to be a trained singer?
We actively encourage everyone to join regardless of previous singing experience. -
Do I need to audition?
You do not need to audition, simply come along and join us. -
Do I need to be able to read sheet music?
There is no requirement to able to read sheet music. Sheet music will be provided but if you feel more compatible with printed lyrics then these will be available as well. -
Do I get to perform? Do I have to perform?
There will be opportunities for you to perform at local events. There is of course no obligation to do this, however, it is great fun and helps to cement your learning. -
What do I have to bring?
We encourage members to bring a drink (bottled water is good to have with you while rehearsing) and a pencil to make notes. Music/Lyrics will be provided and these are yours to write on to help you remember any notes given. Some members bring a recording device to record their part for practise outside of the rehearsal. -
What age can members join?
The minimum age is 16 – there is no upper age limit.
